Why is Greece first in the Olympic parade?

Traditionally (starting at the 1928 Summer Olympics), Greece enters first, because of its historical status as the progenitor of the Olympics, while the host nation marches last. In the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, the Greek flag led the parade, while the Greek team marched in last, as the host nation.

What is bio-mining ?

Biomining is a technique of extracting metals from ores and other solid materials typically using prokaryotes or fungi. These organisms secrete different organic compounds that chelate metals from the environment and bring it back to the cell where they are typically used to coordinate electrons.

What is purpose of Filter in Cigarettes ?

A cigarette filter has the purpose of reducing the amount of smoke, tar, and fine particles inhaled during the combustion of a cigarette.
Filters also reduce the harshness of the smoke.
Most cigarette filters are made of the same material as camera film (cellulose acetate). Each individual filter is made of thousands of tiny fibers. The inside of the filter is painted white to make it appear clean. During smoking, these fibers can come off into your mouth and be inhaled into your lungs.

What is GI Tag?

Geographical indication (GI) refers to any indication that identifies the goods as originating from a particular place, where a given quality, reputation or other characteristic of the goods is essentially attributable to its geographical origin.

Some of its advantages are -

This gives legal protection to the products and prevents unauthorised use of a GI by others
It promotes economic prosperity of producers of goods by enhancing demand in national and international markets
GI registration is essential to get protection in other countries.

What is Satellite Phone?

A satellite telephone, satellite phone, or satphone is a type of mobile phone that connects to orbiting satellites instead of terrestrial cell sites. They provide similar functionality to terrestrial mobile telephones; voice, short messaging service and low-bandwidth internet access are supported through most systems.
Depending on the architecture of a particular system, coverage may include the entire Earth or only specific regions.

What is Artificial Leaf?

Artificial leaf, silicon-based device that uses solar energy to split hydrogen and oxygen in water, thereby producing hydrogen energy in a clean way, leaving virtually no pollutants. The technology, which was designed to simulate the natural energy-generating process of photosynthesis used by plants, was first successfully developed by American chemist Daniel G. Noceraand colleagues in 2011. Further work was needed to improve its efficiencyand cost-effectiveness for practical use.

The basic component of an artificial leaf is a silicon chip that is coated in chemical catalysts, which speed up the water-splitting reaction. In an open vessel of water, when solar energy hits the chip, a chemical reaction similar to photosynthesis occurs—the hydrogen and oxygen molecules of water are split apart, resulting in the separation of protonsand electrons. The protons and electrons are captured on the chip and are recombined to form hydrogen gas, which can be used for immediate generation of electricity or stored for later use.
The primary application of the artificial leaf is the clean production of hydrogen, which is considered an alternative form of energy.

What is Golden Triangle?

The Golden Triangle is the area where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet at the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong Rivers. The name "Golden Triangle"—coined by the CIA—is commonly used more broadly to refer to an area of approximately 950,000 square kilometres (367,000 sq mi) that overlaps the mountains of the three adjacent countries.
Along with Afghanistan in the Golden Crescent, it has been one of the most extensive opium-producing areas of Asia, and of the world, since the 1950s. Most of the world's heroin came from the Golden Triangle until the early 21st century when Afghanistan became the world's largest producer.

What is Sun made of?

The Sun is a huge, glowing sphere of hot gas. Most of this gas is hydrogen (about 70%) and helium (about 28%). Carbon, nitrogen and oxygen make up 1.5% and the other 0.5% is made up of small amounts of many other elements such as neon, iron, silicon, magnesium and sulfur.
Its heat and light come from nuclear fusion, a very different process that doesn't require oxygen. Ordinary fire is a chemical reaction; fusion merges hydrogen nuclei into helium, and produces much more energy.

Why does a Sunflower always face the Sun?

Facing of sunflower towards the sun is known as Phototropic movement. This is due to presence of auxin, a growth hormone in the stem. When the stem tip receives unilateral light, the concentration of auxin increases in the shaded side.
This causes the stem to become bulkier in the shaded region, so the flower ends up bending in the opposite direction – towards the Sun!
