Atheists for Liberty, a nonprofit dedicated to defending fundamental freedoms, joins the fight against the California Civil Rights Department (CRD). On July 10, 2024, at FreedomFest, President Thomas Sheedy and Sundar Iyer, a secular entrepreneur wrongfully labeled as Hindu by the CRD, highlighted this injustice. Together, they are challenging the CRD's unconstitutional actions, which misrepresent caste as a solely Hindu practice. This landmark case emphasizes the importance of First Amendment rights, uniting Americans in pursuing a secular, unbiased government.

Hindus Must Get Politically Engaged ; Learn To Fight Back!

Hinduism, since Vedic times, has evolved with contributions from diverse communities within. I feel proud that communities like the one I belong to have greatly contributed to Hinduism. It may be ancient Vedic sages such as Valmiki and Vyasa who were born into non-Brahmin families, or one of numerous later day spiritual figures such as Janabai, Ravidas, Sajan Kasai, Tukaram, Gora Kumbhar, Chokha Mela, and Nirmala Mahar, women and men who came from Dalit and “lower caste” communities like my own, have helped Hinduism grow, rejuvenate, and reform. CasteFiles Makes FOIA Request to CRD for Data on CA vs Hate; Urges Caution

CasteFiles Founder Richa Gautam said, “As far as Hinduism is concerned, CRD has been under the scanner in many different forums as an agency that violated the fundamental rights of Hindu Americans during the infamous Cisco Caste case where two Hindu American managers Sundar Iyer and Ramana Kompella were wrongly targeted for alleged Caste Discrimination. They proved their innocence and forced CRD to dismiss the case against them. The CRDs dubious past is concerning as it is allegedly guilty of many egregious violations of fundamental rights, constitutional rights, and prosecutorial abuse. This has been extensively documented on CasteGate.org a fact-based website.” Click here for more information: https://castefiles.com/castefiles-makes-foia-request-to-crd-for-data-on-ca-vs-hate-urges-caution

Why is the World so Obsessed with India’s Caste System?

The Indian caste system was a label imposed by the British colonialists and this label did not correctly represent the stratification of the society. In the Vedas, there was no concept of purity of blood, which was a characteristic of Europe’s caste system. On the other hand, there was a concept of actions and personal qualities determining one’s ‘varna’. The Indian term “jaati” that refers to an occupational division of society into barbers, cobblers, cattle-herders, blacksmiths, metal-workers and other trades is not a concept exclusive to India.
